About the Webinar

One of the DGPO’s objectives is to share member experiences and build a data governance community including providing knowledge and direction to members regarding emerging trends in data governance and what data governance professionals need to consider in developing a data governance program or assessing their current program. In support of this objective, we have scheduled a special webinar session on August 7, 2019 focused on the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).

We are pleased to have as our featured speaker – Malcolm Chisholm, Chief Innovation Officer with First San Francisco Partners!

The California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) is the first major data privacy initiative in the USA and will come into force on January 1, 2020. This presentation explains the background of the CCPA and the major elements that require compliance. The impact of Data Governance and Data Management is explained, together with the consequences of noncompliance. As some organizations have already had to comply with the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the differences between CCPA and GDPR are examined to highlight the aspects of CCPA that are unique. Approaches to achieving compliance are discussed in relation to the rights that consumers now have, as well as the new obligations placed on businesses. In particular, the differences between privacy and security are described. The impact on Data Governance as a coordinating function, and the need to bring together disparate parts of the enterprise to meet the CCPA challenge are emphasized.

Attendees will learn:

    - What the CCPA is and its major provisions
    - The differences between the CCPA and the GDPR
    - How Data Governance can be organized to deal with CCPA
    - Approaches to achieving compliance with CCPA
