Submissions were judged on the following criteria:

- Approach used to design, develop and implement the program
- Scope and depth of the Data Governance Program as well as program longevity
- Data governance defined roles and responsibilities
- Communications and marketing approaches
- Policies, procedures and processes established
- Program metrics and business value provided

About the Speakers

Cuozzo_Joshua.jpgJosh Cuozzo, Data Governance Senior Manager, The Vanguard Group, Inc. leads a team that supports Human Resources, Retail, Institutional, and Advisory Client groups.  In addition to his leadership work with these domains, Josh oversees the data governance program communications, metrics and training initiatives.

Josh began his career at Vanguard in 2000 working in the Retail business and then moved throughout Finance, Corporate, and Legal divisions leading process improvement, operations, and data/technology initiatives.  Prior to joining the Enterprise Data Governance Program in 2013, Josh managed the Legal Regulatory Filings Team with oversight of prospectus production and filings to federal and state regulators.  In addition to his bachelor’s degree, Josh holds a Masters in Information Science as well as an MBA from Penn State and is a Certified Six Sigma Black Belt.

Lutz_Joel.jpgJoel Lutz created and now leads Vanguard’s Enterprise Data Governance and Privacy Department, which focuses on orchestrating people, processes, and technology across Vanguard’s global operations to ensure Vanguard’s data is treated as a vital corporate asset. This includes implementing a global data governance program, a global privacy program, a global records management program, and a global governance, risk, and compliance technology platform.

Joel graduated from Tulane Law School and began his legal career in private practice focusing on complex business litigation, primarily in the area of state and local taxation. In 2008, he joined The Vanguard Group’s Legal Department where he managed a team of lawyers and analysts advising on a wide range of internal clients on corporate and contract matters. In addition to his law degree, Joel holds bachelor degrees in Economics and Business Management and a Masters Degree in Finance and is a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP).

Nemshick_Kirk_16.jpgKirk Nemshick, Data Governance Senior Manager, The Vanguard Group, Inc. leads a team that supports Investment Product and Account, International, and Finance groups.  In addition to his leadership with these domains, Kirk oversees the data governance technology program, emerging data quality, and metadata management programs.

Prior to working at Vanguard, Kirk worked in the non-profit industry for nine years as an Assistant Treasurer.  In 1996, Kirk joined Vanguard to manage multiple business operations groups and lead corporate wide Information Technology project initiatives.  In 2012, Kirk accepted an opportunity with the Enterprise Data Governance Program to build and launch Vanguard’s common Data Governance Framework and the supporting infrastructure. In addition to his bachelor’s degree, Kirk is a Certified Six Sigma Black Belt.
